#AVAST UPDATE PROBLEMS WITH XP SP3 OLD COMPUTERS DRIVERS#
If I reinstall, I lose those drivers and updates, and unfortunately, a yearly license costs just shy of $600. The license has expired, but the updates I've got on the computer (drivers and software updates) keep me functional for now. For those who are thinking of suggesting that I simply reformat and reinstall, I have a particular piece of software which is serviced through a yearly update license. This problem may have occurred shortly after upgrading to SP3, but I'm pretty sure it didn't start until a few weeks afterwards, and I use the computer on a daily basis.Īnd here's the difficult bit. I have run Ubuntu from a Live USB and had no issues like this whatsoever, so I'm thinking that it's not a hardware issue, since I originally suspected overheating. I have also noticed that the problem occurs outside of IE and Firefox, so I'm thinking it is a system issue. I originally thought Flash Player was causing the problem, but then had the same problem after I uninstalled it and on a non-Flash site. A hard reboot is the only way I can get it working again. When I'm using any cpu-intensive application, the computer will run fine for a few minutes, then freeze, with the OS unresponsive and the audio looping, but the cursor will move around.

I'm currently using this laptop with Internet Explorer 8.0 as well as Firefox 3. I have for work an HP Compaq 6715b which has given me nothing but problems (2 adaptors, 2 batteries, 2 mobo swaps, and one hard drive replaced), and I thought I had it fixed, but here goes.
